Research Question
Is the interest in science increasing or decreasing? I'm going to be doing service learning for the discovery center and I'm curious about this question. Do people enjoy using the technology or do they like to invent new technology? It seems as if science is declining. Nothing new and amazing is coming out. Is this due to the fact that society's schooling is not as great? It could be because students only look to get a letter grade instead of inventing something like electricity. Or is the science increasing but in a different way? There is plenty of new technology coming out but its just the same item just something made better. Maybe we have hit a brick wall on earth shattering break through in technology. When will we see the next Einstein? When will some new extraordinary technology that no one has ever even thought about come out? Are human brains even capable to go beyond of where we are at?

Hi Tim:
ReplyDeleteInteresting question, and I like the thinking behind it. But I do think it's broad at the moment-- so much so that it's probably unresearchable.
You'll want to narrow in. Below, I list some suggestions.
1) You could look at how science is being taught in some specific venue (the Discovery Center) and talk about how this facilitates engagement or disengagement. (Some of the other research on this blog could be helpful for you, if you decide to pursue this route)
2) Alternately, you could look at how science is being discussed by some particular group (Google "war on science" for background) and consider some specific effect this discussion might have.
3) Finally... anything else that's narrow and researchable.
I appreciate your hard work and thoughtfulness! Send an email my way if you'd like some more help narrowing things down.
I agree with what Jeremy stated above. While the opening question is an interesting one, as a reader I never really understood exactly what your research question was; you stated a total of 7 questions in that paragraph and none of them stood out above the rest. I am interested to see where you go from here, good luck!
