Reflective Blog
I've volunteered at the Discovery Center for about twelve hours now, and it has been fairly insightful in how the DC works. For the most part, it has actually been very boring working at the DC. This is due to how well the DC works. I spend my time there wandering the exhibits, seeing if people need any help with them, making sure the kids are using the exhibits properly, etc. Usually people understand things or find them out on their own and dont need any help. I've had the few exceptions where I did get to help with a couple exhibits, or just spent about five to ten minutes talking to visitors about a specific exhibit or two. This just speaks to how well the DC works. With over a hundred exhibits, most visitors can and prefer to figure out how to use the exhibits themselves. Its a great opportunity for parents to learn with and teach their kids, and the kids really have fun learning. As boring as it may be for me, that is because of how well the idea and principle behind the DC works, and this is definitely a help for my own research. People are naturally curious, so why not use that curiosity to let those people learn, rather than say tell them "No touching, just reading/listening"?
