Annotated Bibliography 1

Tufte, Edward. "Museum Labels." Edward Tufte . Self-Published, 7 Dec 2003. Web. 2 Mar 2011.   http://www.edwardtufte.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=0000yj

The author, in this case the creator of this website, is an artist with his work publicly displayed in Artist Space in New York.  As an artist, he understands the importance labels play in how people view not only his work but all exhibits in general.  I believe an art exhibit is equivalent to a science exhibit in the sense that people still admire what has been created; the difference is the interests of the people viewing the exhibit.  Tufte states that labels should not be over ‘designy’ drawing away from the exhibit itself however should be explanatory because the way an exhibit is described changes the way people view that display.  Tufte supports the idea that the labels we assign to an exhibit influences the way people view that exhibit, therefore designers must be careful in the creation of the labels assigned to an exhibit.
